Microsoft describes becoming water positive as a goal for 2030. Its water-sustainability page presents work intended to reduce water use and support access and replenishment. A stated target is different from an announcement that the target has already been achieved across all operations. Microsoft water programme
The company’s 2025 Environmental Sustainability Report says it is on track to replenish more water than it consumes across global operations. That is Microsoft’s assessment of progress toward its commitment. It should be attributed to the company and read with the report’s definitions and reporting period.
The water page describes projects and technology applications, including tools intended to improve water management. Project activity, water-use reduction and replenishment are related but separate measures. A project count alone does not demonstrate that an organization-wide water balance has become positive.
The environmental report places water alongside other corporate sustainability goals. Those goals also have their own measures and boundaries, so progress in one area cannot establish completion in another. Readers comparing results should distinguish the target year, the period measured and the scope of operations included. 2025 sustainability report
